An NSPA spokesperson told Janes that the order is for Carl-Gustaf launchers, various types of munition, and training material. Staarink said the call-off purchase order was placed under an outline agreement between the NSPA and Saab for the provision of Carl-Gustaf systems and ammunition.

The contract was placed during the week of 5 May to replace obsolete Panzerfaust 3 (PzF 3) anti-tank weapons, according to the Dutch Ministry of Defence (MoD). The PzF 3 has a maximum range of 600 m and the Carl-Gustaf M4 600–800 m, depending on the ammunition used.

The Dutch MoD has allocated EUR50–250 million (USD56.7–283.5 million) to the replacement and expansion of short-range anti-tank capabilities, according to the ministry’s 15 May 2024 Defence Project Overview and its 17 September 2024 update.
